Methane, though less prevalent than carbon dioxide, contributes significantly to global temperature rise. Rapidly addressing methane emissions can swiftly curb global warming and enhance air quality. The energy sector is a major methane emitter, and the IEA asserts that immediate reductions are crucial to limit warming to 1.5°C. Existing technologies can cut 75% of methane emissions from oil and gas operations and half of coal-related emissions, at minimal cost. Such actions are vital to avert irreversible climate tipping points and have broader benefits, including saving lives and crops. Unfortunately, recent data indicates a slight rise in methane emissions from the energy sector.
