Geoffrey Hinton, a prominent figure in artificial intelligence (AI), has called on governments to prevent machines from taking control of society. Hinton, known as one of the “godfathers” of AI, left Google in May to speak openly about the dangers of AI, particularly after the release of ChatGPT, a widely acclaimed AI model. Speaking at the Collision tech conference in Toronto, Hinton emphasized the need for AI developers to understand the potential for AI to seize control. He also highlighted concerns about AI exacerbating inequality and the spread of “fake news.” Hinton urged for proactive measures to address these risks.
