H3N2 influenza, a subtype of the influenza A virus, has been spreading fast in India, causing fever, a prolonged cough, and cold among others. The disease is usually mild but can become severe and put individuals at risk of complications and even death. Signs of severe illness include difficulty breathing, persistent vomiting, low blood pressure, dehydration, high rate of breathing, worsening of existing chronic medical conditions, bluish lips, seizures or convulsions, confusion or disorientation, high fever, extreme fatigue or weakness, chest pain or pressure, and low oxygen saturation. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should be taken to a hospital immediately.
