Selecting a journal can be stressful, especially when there is a preference mentioned by the University or Research Institute. Selecting a journal with a particular indexing and good impact factor is a tedious job. Before selecting a journal one must understand the type of indexing required, where to find the indexed journals and other journal’s metrics.

SCIE indexed journals

The Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) is a citation index initially launched by Institute for Scientific Information and created by Eugene Garfield in 1964. However, it now comes under Clarivate Analytics. SCIE covers more than 8,500 notable and significant journals, across 150 disciplines, from 1900 to the present. To check the SCIE indexed journals, please follow the steps: 1) Go to the URL: http://mjl.clarivate.com/ here you will find the Clarivate Analytics Master Journal List, 2) Enter the target journal name/ISSN/Subject field in the search bar, 3) Select the type of indexing under Clarivate Analytics (SCIE/SCI/ESCI, etc), 4) Check the details such as database coverage, ISSN, homepage link, etc about the particular journal.

SCOPUS indexed journals

Publication in a reputed, high-impact indexed journal is the primary metric for a researcher. SCOPUS is one of the largest indexing databases for journals and books in the medical and life sciences field. Advantages of publication in SCOPUS indexed journals include: increase in the visibility of your publication(s), peer-review process, reaches global audiences. To verify your journal of interest, you would have to: 1) Visit their website at https://www.scopus.com/sources.uri, this will guide you to their search page, 2) Choose the Title/Publisher/ISSN of the journal of your choice and search it in, 3) Enter the journal details in the search bar to have access to their database.

There is a lot of confusion among researchers about scientific indexing from different databases. Let’s find the difference between the SCIE and SCOPUS indexed journals.

SCOPUS is owned by Elsevier and SCIE is owned by Clarivate Analytics (formerly, by Thomson Reuters). SCOPUS focuses on independent journals in the research field of Science, Technology, Medicine, and Social Sciences, however, SCIE indexing focuses on technical and scientific publications including natural and social sciences.
