Japan’s science research papers published in International journals have dropped by 6% since 2012.The Budget for the development of Science and technology has been declining since 2012, another problem that is begging to be addressed, say researchers, is the insecurity looked by young PhD science students regarding funding and employment. So to fight with the situation and to ensure its position among leading AI nations, Japan’s Council for Science, Technology and Innovation in January announced a 7% hike in research funding for 2018. The government is pushing a bigger chunk of the budget for research in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.
